In November, we lost a cherished friend and an extraordinary Assistant Director, Adam Somner.

Adam was an exceptional AD: organised, efficient, and always two steps ahead. What truly set him apart, though, was his leadership style – marked by kindness, humility, and an unshakeable sense of humour. Even on the most chaotic sets, Adam had an extraordinary ability to connect with every Supporting Artiste, making them feel like an integral part of the production. Time and again, we’d hear from SAs after a shoot: “That was the best day I’ve ever had. Please thank Adam.”

Beyond his work as an AD, Adam was a mentor to many, offering guidance, wisdom, and encouragement. He had a remarkable gift for helping others realise their potential, always inspiring those around him to go above and beyond. Over the years, I had the privilege of working with Adam on many of his UK projects, most notably Gladiator. His infectious humour and unwavering professionalism made every day on set both productive and enjoyable. Adam had a way of bringing out the best in everyone, and we all strived for perfection when he was around.

Our thoughts are with Adam’s family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. Rest in peace, Adam – you will be deeply missed.
