The First Films We Ever Saw
Here they all are, roughly in the order the films first hit cinemas. The 1970s
Sarah · The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
“I was very excited to be taken to the cinema without my little brother! I loved the underwater car. Bond all the way”
Ian · Force 10 from Navarone (1978)
“A bunch of kids shoved onto the back ledge of an MG Midget with no seatbelts, whisked off to watch a war film. Classic!”
The 1980s
Laura · E.T (1982)
“I went with my sister and uncle and we took our own tangerines to eat with us”
Vicky · Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1987)
“A hazy first memory of seeing this at an old cinema on Southampton High Street. A re-release, obviously!”
Alex · Oliver and Company (1988)
“I loved all the singing dogs and cats”
The 1990s
Jay · Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995)
“Growing up, I was raised on the Power Rangers TV show. Seeing it on the big screen with a bigger budget and better graphics (for the time) was a real treat that I shared with my Dad. I’ll always be a Power Rangers fan, so I’m really happy this was my first big-screen experience”.
Siobhan · Beauty and the Beast (1992)
“My dad took me because I loved Belle, and I even dressed up in the yellow dress!”
Steph · Titanic (1997)
“The first film I ever watched in a cinema. I was 6 (not sure how my parents managed that!). After that, my brother and I watched it on repeat, daily, all summer!”
James · The Lion King (1994)
“My sister and I were obsessed and would reenact the movie. I always had to be Zazu”.
Amy · Jumanji (1995)
The whole family went. Uncles and aunts, mum, dad, brother, sister, possibly a Christmas family outing. I still think it’s one of the greatest films ever. I’m also pretty positive that’s where my fear of spiders came from. Who takes an 8-year-old to see giant spiders on a giant screen for her first cinema trip?!
The 2000s
Becky · The Tigger Movie (2000)
“A gentle one to start with. I watched it with my mum”
Priya · Treasure Planet (2002)
Not one of the most well-known Disney movies, but I love it!
Ben · Cars (2006)
“I can’t remember much, so it clearly didn’t leave a huge impression, and I don’t think I’ve watched it since. Still, I enjoyed it more than my brother, who fell asleep.”
Lorna · WALL-E (2008)
“I can’t remember it at all from the time, but I love the film now. It’s a classic!”
Katrina · High School Musical 3 (2008)
“I remember it being a cinema birthday party for my friend”
Lisa · Avatar (2009)
“An amazing cinematic experience”
