My On-Set Staples: Layers, Lists, and Lattes
Awake at 5:15 AM. Not to go on set today. If I were, I’d already be layered up, prepping for sign-in at a freezing marquee (always hoping for a cosy hotel sign-in instead). By now, I’d be out the door before anyone else in the house has stirred.
My on-set essentials? Laptop, phone, chargers, coffee cup, water bottle, pens, highlighters, and filming lists are all staples of my kit. My on-set bag hasn’t changed in years, despite everything now being online. Even in an increasingly digital world, the highlighters and printed lists still feel like my comfort blanket (they always resurface in coat pockets, rucksacks, or the car!).
But today? No marquee. No sign-in.
Instead, my 4-year-old is my alarm clock, his face inches from mine, asking if it’s time to go downstairs. The day starts in full swing, even before I’ve had a cuppa: breakfast, clothes, brush your teeth, cuddles, reading books, water bottles, lost gloves, please brush your teeth, where are my keys? be kind to your brother, how is it that time already? Everyone in the car! We bump along country roads to nursery and dash back again in time for school.
Coffee, Catching up and Calling in
I call an AD friend on the way home. We chat about work, films, and who’s moving to which job next. Is this work? It feels more like catching up with friends.
As Production Support Manager, my role revolves around supporting our ADs. Whether helping on-set or troubleshooting problems, discussing tricky logistics for complex scenes, or just being a sounding board, I’m here to make their lives easier and ensure productions run smoothly.
Today, I’m in catch-up mode. Last week was a whirlwind, so this morning is dedicated to admin. Armed with a massive mug of black coffee, I check in with the team and tackle my to-do list. I track what new jobs are coming up and do my very best to make sure that we’re the ones doing them. Sometimes I’m in the office, sometimes I’m working from home, sometimes I’m out on location. It’s a bit of a cliché, but genuinely no two days are the same for me.
A Big Win
Mid-morning, I take an exciting call from an AD about a new job — one we’ve had our eye on for a while. It’s always satisfying when something you’ve been tracking finally comes through. I connect with the team, we make a plan, and we’re off. I’ve been with CC for 12 years, and moments like this remind me why I love the job.
An Afternoon at Warner Bros
In the afternoon, I head to Warner Bros for a meeting but squeeze in lunch with an old friend first. Last time I was here, the place felt eerily quiet. Today, I bump into familiar faces – it feels like a promising sign of a busier 2025 ahead.
We’re finishing the year on a high and looking forward to what’s coming next for our SAs, our team, and all our friends in production.
Wrapping up
After the meeting, I find a quiet corner and squeeze in a bit more work before I leave WB. It’s time to head home to more beautiful chaos ❤️
